Multiple Myeloma for Dummies
In August 2008, 29-year-old Phil Brabbs, a former kicker for the University of Michigan, was diagnosed with smoldering multiple myeloma which progressed to symptomatic myeloma over the next year. He started treatment in October 2009. Once a week, he and his wife, Cassie, blog about their thoughts and reactions to the diagnosis and how it intersects with their young family’s day-to-day life. Phil participated in a clinical trial evaluating a four drug combination and has since undergone two stem cell transplants.
I am a 68 year old woman. In 2005 I was diagnoised with multipke myeloma. Very devasting as I had a very ill husband at the time. In 2007 I had 2 stem cell transplants at the U of M in Ann Arbor. Lasted two years and in 2009 it re occured. I now am in chemo again for one straight year. I am quite depressed but I am pushing on. Always there is hope and I put my life in the hands of God. Don’t ever give up.
Dear Sharon,
With so many new ways to treat MM since your first diagnosis, Im sure your Doctors will find the right combination of drugs to treat your particular type of MM.
All of us with MM never have it easy. We’re always waiting for what we don’t want to hear. You are not alone, Sharon. Keep the faith !
Best regards,
John
